Ford Motor Company is an American multinational corporation. It was founded in 1903 as Detroit Automobile Company from twelve investors, including Henry Ford, John and Horace Dodge and the great inventor Thomas Elva Edison. Henry Ford introduced methods for large-scale manufacturing of cars and large-scale management of an industrial workforce using elaborately engineered manufacturing sequences typified by moving assembly lines. As one of the largest family-controlled companies in the world, the Ford Motor Company has been in continuous family control for over 100 years. Ford was accused for having collaborated with the German Nazi regime and relied on Germany during World War II. The German Ford company used slave labor in Cologne between 1941 and 1945 and it had produced military vehicles such as jeeps, planes, and ships used by a fascist regime.

In addition to the Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury brands, Ford also owns Volvo Cars, a small stake in Mazda and Aston Martin. Ford is currently the fourth-largest automaker in the world, directly behind Volkswagen.

Ford has a long history in rallying and has been active in the World Rally Championship since the beginning of the world championship, the 1973 season. Ford is the only manufacturer to score in the points for 92 consecutive races; since the 2002 season opener Monte Carlo Rally.

The stylized signature of the owner was used for the logo of the company. The badge has been changed many times, especially after the World War II, getting more pretentious and complex to understand. At the end the owners turned back to the initial variant putting Ford’s signature on a blue background.
